The Markim Multimedia Group Youth Program and Educational Initiative is Markim’s signature youth media program dedicated to teaching documentary video as a tool for social change and as a means to developing artistic expression, critical thinking, media literacy and career skills. The Markim Multimedia Group prepares children for living and learning in a comprehensive media-rich culture by helping them to think critically while translating media into practical information. By means of training and educational tools for teachers, youth leaders, parents and caregivers, we coach educators and youth on how to better access, analyze, evaluate and create media messages.
After School and Summer Workshops
The Markim Multimedia After School – Out of School Video Production/Technology Workshop inspires young people to explore their individual creativity while working as a team to achieve specific life goals and production skills. Markim allows students the opportunity to enhance their ability to tell stories that will make a difference in the community through the use of media. We have designed semester and year-long programs as well as unit-based curricula workshops ranging from 4 to 15 week intensive sessions. Students are divided into teams with each team producing one public service announcement (PSA), short film or mini documentary from concept to completion. The students work with our instructors in specific areas including:
Pre-Production (script writing/research)
Production (camera, lighting, audio)
Post-Production (editing/graphics/music)
By the end of the course, students will have learned the following production skills:
Budget Planning
Teamwork
Problem Solving
Internet Researching
Technical Writing
Visual Storytelling
Equipment Operation
Our instructors create an environment that encourages students and creates a sense of achievement as the students produce video pieces that air on television in their own communities and are seen by their peers. Markim Multimedia After School video production/technology program inspires young people to explore their individual creativity while working as a team to achieve specific life goals and production skills.
